Asthma affects the daily lives of so many people, but self-management can help you take control, says Dr. Backman and Dr. Veksler of Allergy & Asthma Care of Fairfield County. See the story below, or link here for the full story.

Asthma patients who spend as little as 30 minutes with a health care pro to develop a personal self-management plan show improved adherence to medications and better disease control, says a new study by researchers at the Univ. of Calif., San Francisco. Twenty million people in the US have asthma, and despite the availability of treatments, the disease remains poorly controlled among many people. The study says that in a clinical setting, personal self-management education coupled with self-monitoring may be a cost-effective way to empower patients to better control their disease, said the study’s lead author Susan L. Janson, a clinical specialist in pulmonary disease.
